Mouth Guards/Night Guards
Mouth guards are coverings worn over teeth, and often used to protect teeth from injury during sports or from teeth grinding. Research has shown that properly fitting mouthguards play an integral role in the prevention of facial and dental injuries in sports or other contact activities.
A customized athletic mouth guard is an excellent investment in your health and safety and should be used by anyone – children and adults – playing contact sports such as hockey, soccer, football, boxing, basketball and lacrosse or non-contact sports (such as skateboarding or mountain biking) that may pose a risk of injury to the mouth.
If you grind your teeth at night, a special mouth guard-type of dental appliance, called a night guard or bite splint, may be created to prevent tooth damage.
To custom fit your mouth guard individually, ensuring the most comfort and best fit and protection, we will take an impression of your teeth and then the dental lab will mold the mouth guard over the model using a special material.
Generally, mouth guards cover the upper teeth only, but all cases are unique and a lower mouth guard might be the best option. An effective mouth guard should be comfortable, resist tears, be durable and easy to clean, and should not restrict your breathing or speech.
